Strong wind can tip over a porta potty, especially an empty unit on open ground. A standard unit weighs about 165 pounds empty and is over 7 feet tall, so gusts of 40 mph or more can push it over. We stake or strap units on open lots and new-construction sites in spring.

Where is the safest place for a unit in windy weather?

The safest place for a porta potty in windy weather is against the downwind side of a building, fence or trailer, on level ground, with the door facing away from the prevailing south wind. Avoid ridgelines, open pasture and spots next to parked cars.

What should I do if a unit tips over?

If a porta potty tips over, keep people away from the spill, do not try to lift it, and call (405) 287-2728. We send a truck to right the unit, pump it, clean the area of waste and replace the unit if it was damaged. Units tipped by storms are not billed as customer damage.

What about tornado warnings?

During a tornado warning, never shelter in a porta potty. Portable restrooms offer no protection. Move to a sturdy building or a storm shelter. After the storm passes, call us and we check, right or replace any unit on your site at no charge for storm damage.
